Each week we will introduce another one of the Cape Cod Baseball League teams to you. This week, meet Chuck Sturtevant, General Manager of the Bourne Braves. Chuck shares his team recipe for Beef Short Ribs in a Crock Pot.
Bourne General Manager Chuck Sturtevant is starting his 26th year in the Cape League- twenty years with the Falmouth Commodores as President and then General Manager and Treasurer. The prior 3 years Chuck was the Vice President of the League. He was on the finance committee and was the CFO of the All Star Games at Fenway Park.
Last year when the Braves GM decided not to run they asked Chuck if he would be interested and he said yes. He missed the connections with the coaches and players. Chuck has had some great players play for him like Darin Erstad, Eric Milton, Jacoby Ellsbury and Cliff Pennington. The Head Coach of Bourne, Harvey Shapiro, and Chuck go back to 1994. He appointed Coach Shapiro to be his Head Coach in Falmouth. Now many years later they are back together. They hope they can keep the winning spirit alive in Bourne for the coming season.
Chuck’s recipe is an easy one. This is for all the crook pot lovers. Beef Short Ribs in the Crock Pot.
Package of Beef Short Ribs about 4 to 6 ribs
3 or 4 Potatoes
6 to 8 carrots (I like carrots)
1 Onion
Beef Bouillon ( I prefer “Better than Bouillon” for a great flavor)
In a bowl mix a cup of flour with salt and pepper (depending on your taste).
Coat the ribs in the flour mix
In a frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil brown your ribs on all sides.
When browned put them in the bottom of your crook pot.
Cut up you potatoes and carrots and slice the onion in quarters.
Place all the vegetables in the crook pot.
Mix 4 cups of the Beef Bouillon and pour in the pot along with the remaining oil and flour mix from the fry pan.
Cook for 10 hours on low or 4-5 hours on high.
The Rib meat will fall off the bone and it it great tasting.
