Beer at the Old Fitzroy, Sydney

Also in Woolloomooloo, you’ll find the Old Fitzroy Hotel, boasting Australia’s only pub theater.  Loved by the Aussie’s, the Old Fitz has been around for 100 years.  It’s so packed in the evenings that the bar puts chairs on the sidewalk.  We arrived early in the day, shortly after opening, and had the pleasure to meet Garry Pasfield, the reining Majordomo of the Old Fitz pub:  http://www.oldfitzroy.com.

Garry knows more about beer that we will ever learn (we invited him to meet the folks at Cape Cod Beer!).  The Old Fitz boasts 16 brews on tap from all over the world including lots of Australian craft beers that change frequently.  Try an Angry Man Pale Ale, a Cruisin’ Aussie Ale, a Hop Hog, a U-Boat Marzen or a Malekula Dark.  We even tried an alcoholic ginger beer that was incredibly refreshing.

The Aussie’s are fun loving and have a great sense of humor.  In the pub, if you come in the winter (our summer) there are marshmallows available for roasting in the pub’s fireplace.
