The Hotel Nacional’s history also had a notorious clientele including Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, Frank Costello and many other members of the so-called Mafia.  In the late 1930′s the Mafia, led by Meyer Lansky, decided that the Hotel Nacional would be the site of one of their many casinos and the perfect place to launder money from the U.S.  As a result of the importance of the Nacional to the mob, it became part of the story in the movie, Godfather Part 2.

The hotel is famous for its nightlife, including the Le Parisien, a Cuban version of the Parisian Caberet.
